Project/system management software, i.e., building information modeling (BIM), will be introduced. Includes visualization, sketching, 2D and 3D graphics standards, dimensioning, tolerance, assemblies, and prototyping/testing with light manufacturing methods. Use of computer graphics (CAD software) to communicate engineering designs. Graphical Communication for Engineering Design (4) Enrollment restricted to SE27 majors only. Introduction to four structural engineering focus sequences. Role and responsibility of structural engineers. Lessons learned from structural failures. Overview of structural behavior and structural design process through hands-on projects. Introduction to fundamentals of structures and how structures work. Introduction to Structures and Design (4) Program and or materials fees may apply to those courses with large lab components. A tentative schedule of course offerings is available from the department each spring for the following academic year. When possible, SE does offer selected large-enrollment courses more than once each year. While some courses may be offered more than once each year, most SE courses are taught only once per year, and courses are scheduled to be consistent with the curricula as shown in the tables. Students are advised that they may be dropped at any time from course rosters if prerequisites and/or performance standards have not been met. The department expects that students will adhere to these policies on their own volition and enroll in courses accordingly.
